Spread the ring far enough apart to go over and not scratch the crown of the piston but not too far to damage the ring. For the oil rings take out the rings marked 3 which are the rails and flex vents. You will have twice as many rails as you have flex vents.
The first step is to place the spacer in the groove. Then spiral the first rail into the groove below the spacer followed by the remaining rail into the groove above the spacer.
