I had to make my own triangles of the proper sandpaper because I couldnt find any locally. 320 was the finest grit I could find. Once dry use a silicone spray polish on all plastic and follow-up with a microfiber cloth to help keep dirt and debris from sticking - this makes it easier to wash after the next ride.
The silicone spray also gives that brand new looking shine youre after. Finally lube up your chain and put in a new air filter if needed. Step 1 Clean the plastic.

The plastics were faded. I worked in a body shop for years when I was young. I was always the guy they trusted to water sand and buff out paint without burning the paint on the car.
So I tried to water sand the plastics on the recon with 1500 grit water sand paper and did so. Once you have pre-soaked your ATV and have loosened up all of that caked on mud its time to forcefully blast the mud off. The easiest and most thorough way to do this is with a pressure washer.
Gas-powered washers are the most powerful but even electric pressure washers work better than a hose and a nozzle. After that you can use some automotive wax to give it a little shine. Rub the polish into the plastic. Use a microfiber cloth to even out the coating and work it into the plastic.

Start with the 220 dip it in water and do light even sanding coats. STEP 4 Move on to the 320 grit and do the same smoothing the plastic out with the lighter-grit paper. In many cases you can use the same gentle automotive detergentbike wash for plastic parts as for other parts of the UTV.
Special-purpose plastic cleaners are also available. A plastic polish at the end brings out that just-like-new shine while silicone sprays can minimize mud adherence on your next trail ride.
