Insert the new CV axle into the transmission housing. Now go Get Some Junk Done.

Other reasons to replace a CV axle include excessive wear or damage in an accident or due to excessive rust. If a bad CV axle is not replaced in time it might separate or jam while driving resulting in a safety hazard. You need to confirm that the axles do need replacing before they are replaced.
It might be that you can just replace one of the boots saving yourself cost on parts. Remove the wheel to provide access to the part. Replace the faulty axle with a new working one.
Or if you are just replacing the boot remove the axle and replace the boot. Replacement of the boots on a CV axle requires that the entire assembly must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled. Because of this labor-intensive approach - and because there is no guarantee how long the joint may last after being compromised - many owners choose to have the entire assembly replaced instead.
Replace The CV Boot Not The Whole Joint. How To Replace An Outer CV Boot. Remove The Axle Nut from the Center of the wheel.
Disconnect the Steering Tie Rod. Remove The Sway Bar Link Rod. Disconnect The Lower Control Arm.
Disconnect the Steering Knuckle From The Axle. Replacing a CV joint will most probably cost the same as replacing the axle shaft but the overall cost will depend on whether or not youre replacing one or both components. You can buy a new axle shaft for 86 to 200 whereas parts and labor combined can cost anything from 150 to 750.
How mechanics replace CV axles. Verify the axle shaft needs to be replaced. Remove wheel and replace the faulty axle.
Torque all fasteners and wheels to factory specifications. Top off any lost transmission fluid. Perform a road test.
